Google have been struggling for ages with how to monetise YouTube but starting with music and videogame partners YouTube will now begin inserting click-to-buy links below select videos.
Right now these affiliate links connect to iTunes and Amazon but we’re told more are coming.
Brilliant thinking from EA Sports here.
Levinator25, a Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 player, posted a video on YouTube showing a new feature of the game: the “Jesus Shot”.
As a response to a fan video Tiger Woods and EA Sports demonstrate that the “glitch” Levinator25 thought he found in the game, is not a glitch at all.
This is the absolute genius ad from EA Sports:
Here’s the original Jesus Shot video:
It is one thing for brands to actually use tools such as Twitter and Google alerts to see what is being said about their brand, however this is a prime example of tackling potential negative publicity and turning it into an opportunity of getting talked about in a positive way amongst the hard-core EA fans.

We’ve had a few videos whizzed around glue this week. Just had to share them.
Easy Lionel – This poor guy is absolutely fried, so these Glaswegian cleaners film him and take the piss.

You’ve gotta love YouTube.
The Muppets now have 4 dedicated YouTube channels, but these grumpy old fellas really used to make me laugh. They’re now on YouTube giving their “video response”.
Interests and Hobbies:
Heckling, hectoring, complaining, insulting and any unreasonable criticism that otherwise ruins it for others.
A topic titled Amazing Rare Def Leppard is gonna get clicked on right. I came across one and did. This was the video. Give this a couple of minutes to get going.. trust me.
Fantastic video from Def Leppard
The summary said “This is a Def Leppard Parody. I made it after I saw a lot of shreds on youtube like StSander and others did. So take it easy, it’s only a parody! Have Fun!”
The other Shreds are also way up there on the madness scale. Even better is that it reminded me to post the sublime Chris de Burger video from Cartel Communique.

From YouTube to Brand X. It feels like it’s happening more and more. I’ve noticed quite a few ads whose concept is lifted almost wholesale from popular YouTube videos. Bursts of creativity in digital channels… re-appearing with higher production values, to sell products.
Here’s a video that was upload to YouTube in May 2006, and was circulated heavily around creative agencies.
Hyperactive by Lasse Gjertsen
Here’s 2 UK adverts airing on television at the moment:
1. Sacla Pesto Sauce (Unknown Agency)
2. Volkswagen Polo (DDB London) More info.
Spot any similarities?
This is another great music video which was massive and really did the rounds a while back.
Again, massive on the internet but pretty blatantly lifted wholesale for a Berocca TV Ad… the hangover tablets in the green tube.
Here It Goes Again by OK Go
3. Berocca (JWT)
How much of this stuff do you notice? Do you mind?
Is it giving agencies a bad name? Or is this part of the game?
Should I pack in my job as a producer and get on the creative bandwagon?
