Nice stunt, but with people’s paranoia, and many people unwilling to be photographed I wonder how many people wouldn’t be best pleased about it.
“What happens to the photo?”
“Who gave you permission?”
“Will it be stored?”
“Will you use it somewhere else?”
I think it’s a pretty nice idea with regards to PR. But many, I fear, won’t.

You bet. Customer information databases of any kind are extremely valuable.

Of course – look at the quick sequence of faces on this ad. Did they get paid/sign artist release contracts? Woops.
